From the videos ive watched, it appears that trees have no effect on manueverability or weapons fire. I could not tell if going uphill or downhill affected mech speeds or not.

For realism, trees should have an effect on these things, if you charge through a line of trees, your mech should be affected in that it loses speed, plus the graphical effect of the trees being knocked down and no longer an obstacle. The same with weapons fire. Weapons should have an effect on the terrain. Blowing up trees to clear your path or line of site, or actually a skilled player using them to block(some) enemy weapons fire,. I did not see these things portrayed in videos.

Without having terrain and trees affecting weaponsfire or speed, it lessens the skill factor. Plus it will allow players to fire from behind tree cover, and not be seen, without the trees having any effect on their fire. Thewy would be shooting through the physical trees, and it not affecting their shots or timing of shot in anyway. This would seem unrealistic to me, and I could see this become a pet peeve of mine in gameplay.

Also, what about enviroment? Fog? Rain? Different planatary enviroments like volcanic terrains affecting heat and speeds, deserts, cold climates, snow affecting speeds and heat dissapation? Are these things taken into account in the developement of the game or is it just about mechs shooting mechs without situational awareness or the possibility of taking account of terrain and climates in your mech/weapons choices?

Honestly, without more variables like these added to the game to enhance the level of skilled play I would lose interest in this game not long after I started playing.

It would be annoying if trees were anything more than a minor inconvenience (especially unbreakable trees that show up in a number of games and you get stuck on while trying to move through a forest, grr....)

Theyve already said that destroyable trees and other environment content are not present in the trailers but will be added later.

I agree to this, especially with a game of this type there should be something like this in it.
Take World of Tanks for instance, they implemented this in their game very well if you ask me.
It could have been better mind you, but it is something to build off of.

One thing I am curious about is how many different maps they will have, such as mid city skyscrapers, or rural warehouses.
Take the into video for MW3 in consideration.
Shooting through buildings, using cover, and getting a position advantage against the other players.

So far, the only thing we really know, is that trees will supposedly fall over, which CryEngine1 did.

The ability to knock over a tree doesn't tell us if it will have any other effects.

I would like lasers to have to cut through them, I would like ballistics to be able to hit them.
I'm kind of doubtful on both though.

All the video you've watched are still early beta footage.

Trees had a huge effect on skilled play in mw4 in a number of ways. For example, in league play teams would go so far as avoiding trees at all costs to avoid detection, the presence of destroyed trees, would give enemy teams knowledge of your location and direction. I remember many times using trees to block incoming missles and other weapons, and then once the enemy knocked out the trees and had to wait for their weapons to recycle, I would get a free shot on them.

And lets not forget fuel tanks... Your scouting and you see enemy mechs passing near fuel tanks? shoot the tanks, enemy mechs get damaged and overheat shutdown... like in mw4. Got to have it.

And missle silos. I mean if we are gonna have commanders with the ability to call in air strikes and artillry, then there needs to be artillry and missle silos on the map somewhere, which can be destroyed, and thus taking the ability away from your opponants in that partular match.

I'm sure they will improve throughout the beta process.
